WHAT WE DO
Our organization has created a comprehensive yet accessible curriculum that empowers children living in shelters to gain an understanding of robotics. Our students receive hands-on experience building and coding a robot via a team of volunteers that our organization trains. Students have an opportunity to iterate on their design and code through participating in fun challenges and mini-competitions.
At the end of the first cycle of robotics education, students are treated to a trip to the Lego store with a gift card to purchase an item of their choice.

A LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDER.
“I started Rise for Robotics out of a deep desire for all children to have equal access to the highest levels of education and extracurriculars. It all began with hearing a news story about homeless college students that moved me deeply; I wanted to do something but didn’t know what. As an educator for over 14 years, my top priority has been helping children meet their fullest potential. Thinking about the added challenges homeless children face in meeting those possibilities due to housing and food insecurity drove me to think about what I could do to change the status quo. When visiting a homeless shelter, it was clear to me that the children there were no different from any others I taught in my classroom. They had the same joy, hopes, and dreams. I wanted to give them access to something fun; something that would take their mind off their difficult circumstances.
I bring robotics to children in my personal and professional life and can see the incredible value it has in the development of their minds, self-esteem, and curiosity - all while having fun. I wanted to use the skills that robotics impart as a means for homeless children living in shelters to find hope in their capabilities. I believe that once children realize what they can fully achieve, especially through meaningful engagement with skill-based learning, they can help break the cycle of homelessness. They can reimagine a future where they too can rise.
I hope that you’ll join us in our work.”
